Nigeria Congratulates Hungary’s President-elect András Baka

Nigeria has congratulated Dr. András Baka on his election as the new President of Hungary, expressing confidence that his judicial experience will strengthen democracy, the rule of law and institutional stability in the European country.

The congratulatory message was conveyed by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on behalf of the Federal Government and people of Nigeria.

In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria also commended the Hungarian National Assembly for the successful conclusion of the presidential election and wished Baka a successful tenure.

Nigeria highlighted Baka’s distinguished career in the Hungarian and international judiciary, including his service as President of Hungary’s Supreme Court and as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights.

The Federal Government said his extensive judicial experience and commitment to the rule of law, constitutional governance and institutional independence would be valuable as he takes on the responsibilities of Hungary’s presidency.

“The Government of Nigeria is confident that, under President-elect Baka’s leadership, Hungary will continue to advance democratic values, the rule of law, institutional stability and national unity, while strengthening its constructive engagement with the international community,” the statement said.

Nigeria also reaffirmed the importance it attaches to its longstanding relations with Hungary and expressed its readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation under the new Hungarian leadership.

According to the statement, areas of potential cooperation include political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, education, culture, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Federal Government further assured Hungary of Nigeria’s continued friendship and commitment to strengthening cooperation and understanding between both countries.

Nigeria wished Baka a successful tenure and expressed confidence that his presidency would provide an opportunity for further engagement between Nigeria and Hungary.
