ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria has commiserated with the family of a 23-year-old medical graduate, Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian, who died after sustaining injuries in a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the incident on Tuesday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and extending condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the Nigerian community. The development was contained in a statement issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
Marian, a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, was reported to have succumbed to injuries amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prays that Almighty God grants the deceased eternal rest and gives her loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement said.
The ministry disclosed that Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany are engaging relevant authorities to verify the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to provide necessary consular assistance to the family.
Nigeria also reiterated its concern over the continued loss of civilian lives in the conflict, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
“Nigeria urges all parties to embrace dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter,” it added.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and welfare of Nigerians abroad, noting that it will continue to monitor developments closely while providing support through its missions.
