The Federal Government has called for immediate de-escalation of tensions between Houthi forces in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning that continued hostilities could endanger civilian lives and destabilise the region.
The position was contained in a statement issued Sunday in Abuja by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa. It urged all parties to exercise restraint.
“Nigeria strongly calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, immediately de-escalate the situation, and refrain from actions that could inflame hostilities or endanger civilian lives and regional peace,” the statement said.
The government emphasised dialogue as the only sustainable path forward.
“The Federal Government urges the parties concerned to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful means of resolving differences in line with the United Nations Charter and international law,” it added.
Nigeria warned that further escalation could undermine regional security and widen instability, reiterating its commitment to peaceful dispute resolution and multilateral engagement.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and its readiness to support efforts aimed at restoring calm and lasting stability,” the statement said.
