Nigeria’s Envoy Erelu Adebayo Presents Credentials In Portugal

ABUJA — Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Portugal, Erelu Angela Adebayo, has presented copies of her Letters of Credence to the Portuguese government, marking a key step toward formally assuming diplomatic duties.

Adebayo presented the credentials to the Secretary-General of Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Francisco Ribeiro Telles, in accordance with established diplomatic protocol.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the Spokesperson of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, who described the move as a significant milestone.

“The presentation marks an important diplomatic milestone preceding the formal presentation of her Letters of Credence to His Excellency, Antonio Jose Seguro, President of the Portuguese Republic,” the statement read.

The formal presentation to the Portuguese President represents the final stage before full accreditation as Nigeria’s envoy.

Adebayo is expected to play a strategic role in strengthening Nigeria–Portugal relations, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, diplomacy and cultural exchange.
