ABUJA — Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Kenya, with concurrent accreditation to Somalia, Ambassador Danlami Ibrahim, has presented his Letters of Credence to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu, formally commencing his diplomatic assignment in Somalia.
The development was disclosed by Oluwafemi Timothy Adeniyi, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, in a statement on the diplomatic engagement.
Ibrahim presented the credentials to President Mohamud at Villa Somalia, where he conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Somali leader.
The Nigerian envoy reaffirmed Abuja’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Somalia and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
He said Nigeria was ready to deepen collaboration with Somalia in security and counter-terrorism, trade and investment, education, diaspora management and culture.
The engagement comes as Nigeria continues to strengthen its diplomatic relations across the Horn of Africa, with security cooperation remaining an important area of bilateral engagement.
Ibrahim’s concurrent accreditation means he will represent Nigeria in Somalia while serving as the country’s principal envoy to Kenya.
The two countries are expected to explore further opportunities for cooperation in security, economic relations and people-to-people exchanges as the new envoy assumes his diplomatic responsibilities.
