Nigeria’s Super Eagles Aim for AFCON 2023 Knockout Stage as They Face Guinea-Bissau in Decisive Clash

In a bid to secure qualification for the knockout stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to face Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus in a pivotal group stage match.

After an initial setback with a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria rallied with a convincing 1-0 victory over Ivory Coast, positioning them in second place in the group standings. With goal difference separating them from group leaders Nzalanag Nacional of Equatorial Guinea, the Super Eagles must secure a win against Guinea-Bissau to ensure progression, regardless of the outcome in the Equatorial Guinea vs. Ivory Coast match.

Guinea-Bissau, though out of contention for the next round, aims to break their winless streak in the AFCON. They look to capitalize on the previous victory against Nigeria during the AFCON qualifiers in 2023.

Despite no new injury concerns for Guinea-Bissau, Ouparine Djoco is expected to continue in goal. On the Nigerian side, Fulham’s Calvin Bassey is likely to maintain his position, replacing the injured Alhassan Yusuf, as they gear up for the crucial clash.

The highly anticipated match is scheduled for a 6pm Nigeria time kick-off on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan. Football enthusiasts eagerly await this showdown, as both teams vie for a spot in the knockout stage of AFCON 2023.
