NUPRC Woos Investors With Lagos Free Zone Visit

LAGOS — The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has stepped up efforts to attract fresh investments into the oil and gas sector with a strategic visit to the Lagos Free Zone.

The engagement formed part of the Commission’s push to improve ease of doing business and deepen collaboration with key industry stakeholders.

Leading the delegation were NUPRC Board Chairman, Senator Magnus Abe, and Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Gbenga Komolafe Eyesan, during the visit held on July 15, 2026.

The team was received by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Free Zone Company, Ms. Adesuwa Ladoja, who guided the officials through the facility and highlighted its investment potential.

The Commission said the visit was aimed at identifying opportunities for upstream operators within the free zone framework and strengthening Nigeria’s appeal to both local and foreign investors.

“We are focused on creating a more business-friendly environment that will attract investment and drive growth in the upstream oil and gas sector,” the Commission stated.

Analysts note that leveraging free trade zones could play a key role in reducing operational bottlenecks and enhancing investor confidence in Nigeria’s energy industry.

The Lagos Free Zone, the country’s first private free trade zone, offers strategic advantages designed to support industrial expansion and ease of operations.

The initiative aligns with ongoing reforms in the petroleum sector and preparations for future licensing rounds aimed at boosting exploration and production.
