A chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsudeen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” has been arraigned before a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja over the alleged killing of a dispatch rider, Ramon Imam.
Oladiti, 55, was arraigned on Wednesday on a three-count charge bordering on involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy and attempted murder.
The prosecution counsel, Jubril Kareem, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences between August and September 2025 at Lewis Street, Lagos Island.
According to the prosecution, Oladiti and others still at large allegedly conspired to commit the offences before allegedly attacking the dispatch rider.
Kareem told the court that the defendant allegedly caused the death of Imam by beating him repeatedly on the head and face.
The prosecution also accused Oladiti of attempting to murder another victim, Samuel Omale, during a separate incident in August 2025.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 224, 411 and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, defence counsel, Olanrewaju Ajanaku, urged the court to grant his client bail and requested an order directing the correctional centre to confirm the defendant’s medical condition.
The prosecution did not oppose the application.
In his ruling, Justice Olawale Alebiosu granted the request and directed the Controller of Corrections at Kirikiri to verify Oladiti’s medical status at a Lagos State Government hospital.
The case was adjourned till June 15, 2026, for trial.
