NYSC, NGX Join Forces to Turn Corps Members Into Investors

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has partnered with the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) to equip Corps Members with financial literacy, stock trading knowledge and investment opportunities aimed at building a new generation of financially empowered youths.

Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during a visit to the Nigerian Exchange Group in Lagos, where he also participated in the Closing Gong Ceremony.

General Nafiu described the collaboration as a major milestone that would expose Corps Members to the vast opportunities available in Nigeria’s capital market and prepare them for a financially secure future.

According to him, the partnership is long overdue and represents a significant step forward for the Scheme after 53 years of existence.

“Today we embrace change, a new relationship that will empower our youths with financial literacy that will open doors of investment opportunities previously out of their reach,” Nafiu said.

He added that the partnership would help Corps Members understand stock trading and investment principles while encouraging them to become active participants in the nation’s financial system.

“This partnership is a commitment to the future by equipping the NYSC to participate in the capital market,” he stated.

The NYSC boss noted that exposing young Nigerians to investment opportunities early in life would not only improve their financial well-being but also contribute to economic growth and wealth creation.

Welcoming the Director General, Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, expressed the readiness of the organisation to deepen collaboration with NYSC and other stakeholders in the financial sector.

Kwairanga praised the NYSC for its longstanding role in promoting national unity and youth development across the country.

He said there were enormous opportunities within Nigeria’s financial ecosystem that young people could take advantage of to build sustainable wealth.

“We see immense opportunity in exploring collaboration with the NYSC to advance financial literacy among Corps Members across the country,” he said.

According to him, the partnership would also help strengthen the culture of savings and encourage greater participation of young Nigerians in the nation’s economy.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Mr Jude Chiemeka, said the exchange currently boasts more than 323 listed securities, offering investors a wide range of investment options.

He explained that the Nigerian capital market remains one of the leading frontier markets globally and continues to attract goodwill from investors.

Chiemeka described General Nafiu’s visit as the beginning of a strategic relationship that would open up investment opportunities for thousands of Corps Members nationwide.

He further disclosed that the Nigerian Exchange maintains partnerships with several leading stock exchanges across the world, creating opportunities for growth and global exposure.

The partnership is expected to provide Corps Members with practical knowledge of investing, savings and wealth creation, while helping them develop financial discipline beyond their service year.
