As Bayelsa State marked its 30th anniversary with a celebration of notable legacies and contributions to the state and nation, the wife of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ogechi Lokpobiri, has been celebrated for her humanitarian spirit, compassion and the positive impact she continues to make in the lives of people around her.
The commendation came from the Vice President of Boardwalk Group and Abuja-based real estate developer and philanthropist, Chief Mrs Obiageli Okwubanego, who described Dr Ogechi as a remarkable woman whose influence extends beyond her role as the wife of a serving minister.
The Bayelsa @ 30 celebration, themed “Celebrating Legacies,” also witnessed the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Senator Heineken Lokpobiri by the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
Speaking with journalists in Asokoro, Abuja, Okwubanego described Senator Lokpobiri and his wife as “two perfect persons” whose hearts, she said, were committed to making Nigeria better and improving the lives of people who come across their paths.
While acknowledging the minister’s contributions to the oil and gas sector and his efforts to project Bayelsa State positively at the federal level, Okwubanego said Dr Ogechi deserved particular recognition for the values she represents and the impact she has continued to make.
She described her as a “pillar” and an “icon,” stressing that Dr Ogechi represents the biblical woman who builds her home while simultaneously contributing positively to society.
According to Okwubanego, the success of a man in public service is often strengthened by the character, sacrifices and support of the woman standing beside him.
She said Dr Ogechi embodies the qualities of a caring, hardworking and productive wife, adding that her influence is not limited to supporting her husband but also extends to touching the lives of others through acts of compassion and service.
“Behind every successful man, there is a productive, caring and hardworking wife,” Okwubanego said, stressing that Dr Ogechi has demonstrated these qualities in a manner worthy of commendation.
She noted that public office comes with enormous responsibilities and pressures, making the role of supportive spouses particularly important in helping public officials remain focused on service.
For Okwubanego, Dr Ogechi’s story is therefore not merely that of the wife of a minister, but that of a woman who has chosen to use her position, relationships and influence to make a difference in the lives of others.
She urged Nigerians to celebrate individuals whose contributions may not always make the headlines but whose quiet acts of kindness, encouragement and humanitarian intervention have meaningful consequences in the lives of people.
The commendation adds another dimension to the recognition of Senator Lokpobiri at the Bayelsa @ 30 celebration, placing alongside his public service record the often less visible contribution of a supportive spouse who, according to Okwubanego, has remained a pillar behind his journey.
