The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains viable despite its internal challenges, reaffirming that his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections is unchanged.
Speaking during an interview with journalists, Wike dismissed claims by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, that he was working from within to destabilise the PDP, describing the allegation as “embarrassing” and without basis.
Wike argued that those levelling such accusations have themselves engaged in political manoeuvres across party lines for personal gain, insisting that his position has remained consistent.
“I have said it clearly: I will not leave the PDP, but I will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That has been my position,” he said.
The minister maintained that the outcome of the party’s recent convention has dispelled concerns about its future.
“The convention has shown that the party is alive and kicking strongly. Yes, there may be one or two hiccups, but those are natural and will be resolved,” he added.
He criticised what he described as shifting loyalties among some political actors, accusing them of misleading the public through inconsistent positions and opportunistic alliances.
On the lingering disputes within the PDP, Wike stressed the importance of adherence to court rulings and due process, warning that disregard for judicial decisions has contributed to the party’s internal tensions.
He, however, expressed confidence that the PDP’s leadership challenges would be resolved through lawful and institutional channels.
