PDP Primaries Transparent, Monitored by INEC — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations of irregularities and parallel primaries within the party, insisting that the ongoing exercise was transparent and conducted in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Wike spoke on Wednesday while addressing journalists shortly after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja.

According to him, the PDP complied with due process in conducting its screenings and primaries, contrary to claims by critics.

“All I know is that we have completed our screening and the primaries are going on. INEC was present at all the primaries,” he said.

The minister accused some individuals of making unfounded allegations without verifying facts, stressing that the party had publicly announced venues for the exercises.

“People like making assertions without facts. We announced where the screenings and primaries would take place,” Wike stated.

He, however, declined to comment on reports of parallel screenings and primaries allegedly organised by another faction within the party.

“I don’t know about any other side. I am happy with the way the PDP is going about its primaries,” he added.

The PDP has been battling internal disagreements in recent months, with reports of factional interests emerging ahead of the party’s preparations for future elections.
