The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the rehabilitation of four transmission towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line in Rivers State.
The company disclosed this in a statement issued by its management on Monday, saying the damaged towers were discovered by its engineers from the Port Harcourt Region during an inspection of the transmission line.
According to TCN, Towers T50 to T53 were affected after their tower members were removed and carted away by vandals.
The company said the latest incident represented the fifth reported vandalism attack on the same transmission line in recent times, underscoring the persistent threat posed to critical electricity infrastructure.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is currently rehabilitating four towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line. The incident was discovered on August 6, 2026, by the company’s lines engineers from the Port Harcourt Region,” the statement said.
It added, “Towers T50 to T53 were affected, with their tower members removed and carted away.”
TCN said rehabilitation work was already underway and called on stakeholders and communities to support efforts to protect transmission facilities from further attacks.
“As rehabilitation work progresses, we enjoin all stakeholders to join hands to curb the menace that is threatening the stability of the national grid,” the company said.
The Afam-IPP-Elelenwo transmission line is part of the electricity transmission network serving the Niger Delta region.
TCN noted that vandalism of transmission towers could disrupt the safe and reliable movement of electricity across the network, making the protection and maintenance of such infrastructure critical to national grid stability.
The latest incident adds to concerns over the continued destruction of electricity infrastructure across the country, with TCN undertaking inspections, repairs and rehabilitation works to restore damaged facilities and strengthen the reliability of the national grid.
