KANO — Fresh trouble is brewing in the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) as the party’s Northwest Stakeholders Forum on Sunday accused former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of allegedly attempting to take control of its nomination process ahead of the next round of elections.
The group alleged that nomination forms for all 69 elective positions under the PRP platform had been purchased by a single individual who is not even a registered member of the party.
Addressing journalists in Kano, the Forum Chairman, Abdulkadir Musa Giza, described the development as a direct attack on internal democracy and the constitutional rights of genuine party members aspiring for elective offices.
“It has been confirmed that nomination forms for all 69 elective positions under the platform of the PRP have been purchased by one individual who is not even a member of our party,” Giza alleged.
The stakeholders expressed concern over reports linking Kwankwaso to the controversial exercise, warning that any attempt to dominate the affairs of multiple political parties would undermine democratic principles.
“We are particularly disturbed by reports linking Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to this exercise. We wonder why Senator Kwankwaso would seek to have the nomination tickets of several political parties under his control,” he said.
Giza described the alleged action as a dangerous precedent capable of creating confusion within the political system and disenfranchising loyal party members.
“This is nothing short of political robbery. It threatens internal party democracy and has the potential to create confusion, disputes and disorder in the electoral process,” he declared.
The forum called on Kwankwaso to allow political parties to function independently without external influence, insisting that the PRP has capable and credible members ready to contest elections on its platform.
The group further warned that it would not hesitate to seek legal redress if the alleged interference continues.
“Should this interference continue, legal action will be our only option in defending the integrity and independence of our party,” Giza stated.
The stakeholders maintained that the party remains committed to protecting its democratic processes and ensuring that its tickets are contested fairly by bona fide members.
