Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday charged 30 newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to rebuild public confidence, uphold integrity and provide exemplary leadership as they assume higher responsibilities amid the nation’s growing security challenges.
Speaking during the decoration of 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 17 Commissioners of Police at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP described their promotion as a call to greater service rather than personal achievement.
He said the credibility of the Force would depend not only on operational successes but also on the quality of leadership, professionalism and accountability demonstrated by senior officers.
Disu urged the officers to maintain zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office and misconduct while prioritising the welfare of personnel under their command.
He stressed that public trust is the backbone of effective policing, saying intelligence gathering and crime prevention depend largely on citizens’ confidence in the Force.
The police chief also reiterated the Force’s commitment to institutional reforms, intelligence-led policing, technology-driven operations and improved personnel welfare, while encouraging the newly promoted officers to mentor younger colleagues.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the Police and praised the Police Service Commission for sustaining a transparent promotion process, urging the officers to wear their new ranks with humility and dedication to protecting lives and property across the country.
