Seven suspects have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command following a reprisal clash that claimed two lives in Dass Local Government Area of the state.
The violence occurred on Friday, September 4, 2026, after a 29-year-old tricycle rider, Abdulrahman Nuru, was allegedly intercepted and hacked to death at Tudun Wus around 6pm.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said Nuru was attacked with cutlasses by a gang allegedly led by one Ibrahim El-Safwan, also known as Jabala’i.
The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Dass, where he was confirmed dead.
The killing subsequently triggered a reprisal attack as armed youths from the victim’s neighbourhood in Bundot reportedly mobilised and moved towards the Bayan Fada area.
During the ensuing confrontation, a 38-year-old man, Mukhtar Jibrin, was allegedly stabbed.
Jibrin was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he was later pronounced dead.
Following the escalation, police operatives, supported by personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were deployed to the affected areas to quell the violence and restore normalcy.
Police said seven suspects had so far been arrested in connection with the killings and the ensuing riot.
Those arrested are Umar Abubakar, 20; Blus Garba, 19; Aliyu Abdullahi, 18; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; and Shuaibu Sani, 17.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killings and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
He assured residents that those found culpable would face justice, while appealing to the people of Dass to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be at large.
