Newly elected national officers of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) yesterday took their oath of office, pledging loyalty to the party and a firm commitment to its constitution, discipline and collective progress.
The swearing-in ceremony, which formed a key highlight of the party’s 2026 National Convention in Bauchi, formally ushered in the new National Working Committee after their election through voice votes by delegates.
Administering the oath, convention officials charged the officers to remain faithful to the ideals of the party and ensure strict adherence to its constitution and internal regulations.
Taking the oath, the new executives pledged total allegiance to the SDP and vowed to discharge their duties with honesty, commitment and integrity.
“I do solemnly swear and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Social Democratic Party,” they declared.
“That I will discharge my duties to the best of my abilities faithfully and in accordance with the provisions, rules and regulations of the constitution of the Social Democratic Party.”
They further promised to promote the unity, stability and prosperity of the party at all times.
“I will always act in the interest of the integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the Social Democratic Party. So help me God,” they affirmed.
With the oath-taking, the newly elected National Working Committee was formally inaugurated to steer the affairs of the party ahead of future political engagements.
The new executives include Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe as National Chairman; Sen. Ugochukwu Uba, Deputy National Chairman (South); Dr. Olu Agunloye, National Secretary; Hajiya Mariam Maggie Batubo, National Treasurer; Joseph Achille Abu, National Organising Secretary; Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, National Publicity Secretary; Aderemi Abimbola, National Legal Adviser; Bello Ado Hussaini, National Financial Secretary; Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, National Woman Leader; Daniel Ibe, National Youth Leader; Rosemary Effiong, National Social Secretary; and Lekan Alabi, Leader of Persons With Disabilities.
