Security Operatives Foil Armed Robbery Attempt at Ogbomosho Power Substation
Security personnel at the Ogbomosho Transmission Substation have foiled an attempted robbery attack by armed intruders, preventing what could have disrupted electricity infrastructure in the area.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the attack occurred in the early hours of May 10, 2026.
According to the company, a group of armed men gained unauthorised access into the substation by scaling the perimeter fence near the gate between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
“The intruders proceeded to the gate house in an attempt to attack and immobilise the vigilante security personnel on duty,” TCN said in a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
However, the security team on duty responded swiftly, repelling the attackers by firing warning shots, which forced them to retreat and flee through the same route they used to gain entry.
During their escape, the suspects reportedly abandoned tools and personal items near the fence, with early morning inspections revealing traces of blood and footprints leading to their exit point.
“A full search conducted after daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the intruders,” the statement added.
TCN confirmed that no personnel were injured during the incident.
The company said the matter has been reported to relevant security agencies, adding that it is collaborating with authorities to investigate the attempted breach and prevent future occurrences.
As part of community engagement, TCN also disclosed that a formal report of the incident would be submitted to the Oba’s Palace.
The incident highlights ongoing security concerns around critical power infrastructure, even as authorities continue efforts to safeguard transmission facilities across the country.
