…Committees get two weeks to report
The Senate has commenced moves to screen and confirm nominees forwarded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for key positions in three federal institutions.
The nominations were referred to relevant Senate committees on Tuesday after Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s separate letters of nomination on the floor as lawmakers resumed plenary following their recess.
Tinubu is seeking the confirmation of Abdullahi Maikano as Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), alongside six other nominees to serve as members of the commission.
The Senate referred the FRC nominations to its Committee on Finance and directed the committee to screen the nominees and submit its report within two weeks.
In another communication, the President nominated Sani Ndanusa as a Non-Career Ambassador/High Commissioner.
The nomination was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, which was also given two weeks to complete its screening and report to the Senate.
Tinubu also sought the confirmation of Wakil Bulka as a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), representing Bauchi, Borno and Yobe states.
The nomination was referred to the Committee on Establishment and Public Service for consideration, with a two-week deadline to report back to the chamber.
The referrals formed part of the Senate’s legislative business as the National Assembly resumed plenary after its extended recess.
The Fiscal Responsibility Commission is responsible for promoting transparency and accountability in public financial management, including monitoring fiscal operations, revenue allocation and debt management.
