Abuja, Nigeria – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled power outage on the Mando–Kumbotso 330kV transmission line, which will disrupt electricity supply across several northern states and parts of neighbouring Niger Republic.
In a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the outage will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, to facilitate critical annual maintenance works.
According to the statement, “the outage is necessary to enable TCN’s maintenance crew amend a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the line route.”
The development means that the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will be unable to off-take power from the national grid during the maintenance window. As a result, electricity supply will be temporarily interrupted in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, as well as parts of Bauchi and Yobe states.
The outage will also affect customers in Gazaoua in the Niger Republic, highlighting the cross-border impact of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
TCN apologised to affected electricity consumers, noting that the maintenance is essential to ensure the reliability and stability of the transmission network.
The company added that normal electricity supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed.
