TETFund to Construct Hostel Accommodation in Campuses Across Nigeria

In a decisive move aimed at tackling the critical issue of student accommodation, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has unveiled plans to embark on hostel construction projects across 36 campuses nationwide this year.

Architect Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, revealed this during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Abuja.

Echono further disclosed that the Fund is actively working on providing complimentary internet access for students in both public and private tertiary institutions across the nation.

Expressing gratitude to NANS for their steadfast support and constructive engagement in advocating for the welfare of Nigerian students, Echono emphasized the pivotal role of students in educational policies and projects.

He stated, “I want to assure you that we will continue to support NANS, we will partner with NANS because there is no doubt that any policy or project in the education sector must prioritize students.”

Addressing misconceptions about TETFund’s primary focus on schools, infrastructure, and lecturers, Echono underscored that students are indeed the core focus of the Fund’s initiatives.

“In today’s world, knowledge delivery systems have evolved. Teachers are now facilitators, and access to information is paramount. Hence, we are committed to providing free internet access on campuses to enhance learning resources,” Echono explained.

Regarding NANS’ request for the establishment of a national secretariat, Echono assured that he would engage with relevant stakeholders to consider the proposal, acknowledging the increased frequency of NANS’ engagements in Abuja.

In response, NANS President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, pledged the support of Nigerian students in monitoring and safeguarding educational infrastructure to complement TETFund’s efforts in enhancing the country’s educational landscape.

“We are not going to relent; we are going to complement your efforts to ensure that these significant projects that TETFund is implementing in our institutions receive adequate monitoring, supervision, and protection,” Emonefe affirmed.
