ABUJA, Nigeria — Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has alleged a plot by security agencies to manipulate audio and visual recordings linked to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in a bid to tarnish his image and justify his continued detention.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Frank claimed that El-Rufai has been placed under “intense surveillance” while in custody, with conversations involving the former governor, his lawyers, and family members allegedly being secretly recorded.
“Nasir El-Rufai has been subjected to intense surveillance even in detention,” Frank said.
He further alleged that the recordings are being tampered with using artificial intelligence tools to create incriminating content.
“The plan is to use AI to distort some of these recordings to frame El-Rufai… and then leak some of these doctored recordings to the press,” he claimed.
Frank also alleged that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where El-Rufai is reportedly being held, is working in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) in the monitoring process.
According to him, operatives are reviewing recorded materials to identify segments that could be manipulated to support the alleged agenda against the former governor.
Describing the situation as a coordinated effort, Frank said the alleged actions are aimed at damaging El-Rufai’s reputation and prolonging his detention.
“It is all part of the agenda to destroy El-Rufai, tarnish his reputation and keep him in custody,” he added.
There has been no official response from the security agencies mentioned as of the time of filing this report.
