President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday declared that the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network in Karu, Abuja, will revive economic activities, eliminate the notorious traffic congestion along the corridor and improve the living conditions of residents.
Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning of the Karu township roads, said the project was a practical demonstration of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at bringing development closer to the people.
According to the President, the Karu corridor, which serves as one of the busiest entry points into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had for years been plagued by crippling traffic that wasted productive hours and slowed business activities.
“By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy,” Tinubu said.
He noted that the project would drastically reduce travel time, end frustrating gridlock and create an enabling environment for businesses to flourish.
“When we came into office three years ago, we recognised that development must get to where people live, work and commute. This project is fulfilling that promise,” he added.
The President also said solar-powered streetlights installed along the road would improve security, reduce crime at night and guarantee safer movement for motorists and pedestrians.
Tinubu hailed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, for driving what he described as the rapid transformation of Abuja through aggressive infrastructure development.
“The rapid physical transformation across Abuja could not have happened without the dogged, relentless and focused supervision of Barrister Nyesom Wike. His implementation of our urban renewal agenda is visible for everyone to see,” he said.
He equally commended the contractor, Abdul-Val Constructions Limited, for delivering the project on schedule, saying the indigenous firm had proved that Nigerian companies could execute world-class infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the event, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Barr Nyesom Wike urged residents to appreciate good governance irrespective of political affiliation, insisting that development should not be viewed through partisan lenses.
“It doesn’t matter the political party you belong to. When you see a good thing, say it is a good thing,” Wike said.
“Whether anybody hates President Tinubu or not, nobody can hate this road. Opposition members use it, government officials use it and even those who are not politicians use it.”
The minister assured residents that every district and community in the FCT would continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy through sustained infrastructure development.
He also praised Abdul-Val Constructions Limited for its commitment to the project, noting that the company never abandoned the site despite delays in payment.
“I have seen that whether the money is there or not, this contractor keeps working because he believes in the government of Bola Tinubu. It is rare to find people who will commit their resources with such confidence,” Wike said.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, explained that the project, awarded in August 2025, covers the road from Karu Interchange on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to Customs Clinic Junction, as well as the DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road and Old CBN Quarters Road.
He said the completed project would improve accessibility, enhance traffic flow, strengthen drainage infrastructure and boost security within Karu and neighbouring communities.
According to him, residents can now access the Abuja city centre from Karu in less than 10 minutes, significantly reducing travel time and improving economic activities in one of the FCT’s fastest-growing satellite towns.
