President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of the Emir of Zurmi, Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, describing him as a stabilising figure whose leadership and commitment to peace were invaluable to Zamfara State and the nation.
The monarch died on Monday, five years after ascending the throne.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his sympathies to the family of the late Emir, the Zurmi Emirate Council, the Zamfara State Government and people, as well as the traditional institution across the country.
Tinubu described the late monarch as a respected traditional ruler who led his people with wisdom, dignity and a strong sense of responsibility, particularly during a period of security challenges in the North-West.
He said the Emir demonstrated courage and leadership in guiding the Zurmi Emirate through difficult times while promoting peace, unity and resilience among his people.
“His Royal Highness was a stabilising figure whose wise counsel and dedication to peace-building were invaluable not only to Zurmi Emirate but to Zamfara State and our nation’s efforts to restore lasting peace in the North-West,” Tinubu said.
The President prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the late traditional ruler, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
Tinubu also prayed for comfort and strength for the late monarch’s family, the Zurmi Emirate and all those mourning his passing.
The death of the Emir has brought to an end his five-year reign during which he presided over the affairs of the emirate amid persistent security challenges in parts of Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
