The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned drone operations across Uyo metropolis and announced movement restrictions on six major routes ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state.
The security measures also prohibit the use of fireworks, knockouts and other explosive sound-producing devices within the state capital.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, announced the restrictions during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.
He said the measures were part of security arrangements to protect restricted airspace, secure strategic locations and ensure the smooth movement of the President’s convoy.
The affected routes and locations are Airport Road, Shelter Afrique Junction, Oron Road, Nung Oku Junction, Mbierebe Junction and Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The police advised motorists and other road users to avoid the affected corridors during the restriction period and make use of alternative routes.
Azare explained that the ban on drone operations was a proactive security measure aimed at preventing possible breaches, while the prohibition of fireworks and other explosive devices was intended to avoid panic and distractions that could compromise security operations.
The police commissioner appealed to residents to cooperate with security personnel, stressing that the temporary restrictions were not designed to cause hardship but to protect lives and property during the presidential visit.
He disclosed that the command was working with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen intelligence sharing, traffic management and security deployment across strategic locations.
Residents were also urged to remain law-abiding, stay away from restricted areas and report suspicious movements or security concerns to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.
President Tinubu is expected to arrive in Akwa Ibom on Friday, November 6, 2026, for official engagements and scheduled activities.
