Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised a terrorist, arrested multiple suspects, and disrupted criminal networks in a series of coordinated operations across Zamfara State.
The Joint Task Force North West disclosed that the operations, conducted between June 5 and 6, 2026, targeted bandit enclaves and criminal hideouts in several local government areas, including Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Zurmi, Maru, and Shinkafi.
According to the military, troops on patrol in Birnin Tsaba and Tsanu villages engaged terrorists in a firefight, killing one and recovering seven motorcycles.
In a separate operation, troops responded to an attack in Anguwar Sarkin Musulmi village in Kaura Namoda, forcing the assailants to flee after looting residents’ belongings.
The task force also confirmed an ambush on commuters along the Kaura Namoda–Zurmi Road, where terrorists attacked two civilian vehicles. Troops secured the area, evacuated injured victims for treatment, and launched efforts to track down the attackers and rescue abducted passengers.
In Maru Local Government Area, troops arrested eight suspected bandits during a fighting patrol in Tudun Wada, recovering motorcycles, communication equipment, mobile phones, power banks, and military-style uniforms. A structure linked to the suspects was also destroyed.
Meanwhile, in Shinkafi Local Government Area, troops arrested a suspected arms logistics handler believed to be linked to recently intercepted ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
Military authorities said the operations reflect intensified efforts to degrade terrorist networks and disrupt their supply chains, noting that sustained offensives have continued to put pressure on criminal elements in the North-West.
They urged residents to support ongoing operations by providing credible and timely intelligence to security agencies.
