Leaders of Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State have declared their unflinching loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, promising to stand by his political direction while appealing for more development projects in the area.
The community made the declaration during a stakeholders’ engagement with Wike, where its representatives praised his leadership and called for urgent interventions in healthcare, education, electricity and youth empowerment.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Zonal Director of the Post Primary Schools Board, Dr Chimereze Nwaorgu, used a biblical declaration to express the community’s commitment to the former Rivers State governor.
“Where you go, I will go; and where you stay, I will stay. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God,” Nwaorgu declared.
He commended Wike for his contributions to human capital development, institutional support and public administration, noting that the minister’s influence had helped facilitate federal appointments and support educational institutions.
Nwaorgu said Wike’s leadership had continued to inspire confidence among political stakeholders across Rivers State, urging him not to neglect Oyigbo in the distribution of development projects.
The community also presented a collective appeal seeking improved healthcare facilities and medical equipment, the rehabilitation and modernisation of public schools, the reconstruction of electricity infrastructure and expanded opportunities for youth employment, skills acquisition and economic empowerment.
Nwaorgu stressed that addressing these needs would improve the living conditions of residents and create opportunities for young people.
He further called for political unity, warning that communities that failed to recognise previous contributions to their development risked undermining their chances of securing future progress.
He urged political leaders and stakeholders in Oyigbo to remain united and committed to the area’s development amid the changing political and economic landscape.
Responding, Wike urged Nigerians to disregard social media rhetoric and judge political leaders by their records in public office.
According to him, effective leadership and electoral victories require strong grassroots structures, courage and proven administrative competence, rather than popularity on social media.
The FCT minister also defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, arguing that the temporary sacrifices associated with the reforms were necessary to achieve long-term economic stability and infrastructure development.
He called on political stakeholders across party lines to unite behind Tinubu’s development agenda, stressing the need for collective action to secure Nigeria’s future.
The engagement formed part of Wike’s consultations with political stakeholders across Rivers State on development priorities and the state’s political direction.
