The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Barr. Nyesom Wike, has denied endorsing the Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Ishaku Abbo, describing a social media post suggesting his support for the candidate as fake.
Wike, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said he had neither endorsed Abbo nor expressed support for any LP candidate in Adamawa State.
The social media post had purportedly quoted the minister as urging the people of Adamawa to make informed decisions at the ballot, while describing Abbo as the most suitable candidate to lead the state.
However, Olayinka, speaking on behalf of the minister, dismissed the report, insisting that Wike had no relationship with the Labour Party or any of its candidates in the state.
The minister urged Adamawa residents to disregard the publication, warning against the circulation of false statements attributed to him on social media.
He said Wike would personally make his position known whenever he decided to support any candidate, rather than allow others to speak on his behalf.
The clarification comes amid political activities in Adamawa State ahead of the governorship election, with the minister distancing himself from the purported endorsement.
