The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of about 30 buildings allegedly sitting on the Right of Way of the Ring Road 3 corridor linking Karsana, Gwarinpa and Kubwa in Abuja.
Wike gave the order on Thursday during an inspection of ongoing road projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
The directive followed a briefing by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Dauda, who informed the minister that several structures had encroached on the corridor reserved for the major road project.
Dauda explained that foundation work on the second bridge was progressing despite the rocky terrain.
“Here is rocky; there’s no piling, so they’ve already started the foundation. It won’t delay, so bridge works will continue,” he said.
He identified the area as Karsana District and explained that the Ring Road 3 corridor connects the area to Kubwa Road, the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) and the Airport Road axis.
Dauda disclosed that about 30 buildings had been constructed on the master plan corridor reserved for the infrastructure project.
The disclosure did not go down well with Wike, who immediately directed officials of the Department of Development Control to demolish the affected structures.
“We’ll have to demolish this right now. Demolish the building down. How can it be like this? It’s even a road, it’s not even a layout it’s an interchange, the leg,” Wike said.
The minister warned property owners and developers against erecting structures on road corridors and other areas reserved for public infrastructure.
He stressed that the FCT Administration would not allow illegal developments to frustrate ongoing projects or distort the Abuja Master Plan.
Wike has intensified enforcement against illegal structures across the FCT as part of efforts to restore planned development, protect infrastructure corridors and ensure the smooth execution of major road projects.
