Barr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has emphasized that his administration will not tolerate any infractions or obstructions of ongoing projects in Abuja. During an inspection of various road projects, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress made but criticized reported incidents of obstruction by a House of Representatives member and the Central Bank.
He asserted that these projects are public and approved by the Federal Executive Council, emphasizing that the FCT Administration will not allow any hindrance to the completion of essential public infrastructure. Wike expects many projects to be completed and handed over to the public by December 2024.
Wike stated, “We are not going to take it lightly. This is not a private project; it is a public project handled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration. If there is any complaint, we think that whoever is responsible should complain to us and not go and use the police to stop a legitimate company constructing work for the use of the public, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council.”
He directed the contractor to continue the work despite reported stoppages. Wike also expressed satisfaction with the progress made by Julius Berger in the B6 and D12 Area but noted potential obstructions by the Central Bank, which he vowed not to allow.
The Minister highlighted that no ongoing project had been stopped since the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu and anticipated handing over several projects to the public by December 2024. He also clarified that contracts are awarded by the Federal Executive Council, and if Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, needs to add her voice in the National Assembly regarding FCT issues, he would support that.
