The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has announced plans to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, saying it has developed a campaign strategy centred on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The party said it would focus on an inclusive, people-driven campaign aimed at mobilising voters across the country behind Makinde, whom it described as its popular and credible alternative to the incumbent president.
The APM National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday, saying the party had established what he described as a “very strong and highly efficient campaign machinery” that would soon be unveiled publicly.
Abubakar said the party had conducted consultations across the country and established alliances with other opposition parties ahead of the formal commencement of campaigns.
“Tomorrow marks the official commencement of campaigns and, as a party, I can assure you that we are ready for the task ahead,” Abubakar said.
“We have a very popular presidential candidate in Governor Seyi Makinde and we have worked out strategies to ensure that not only do we win the ballot, but also that our winning votes are firmly protected,” he added.
The APM spokesman said the party would intensify its mobilisation efforts nationwide and deploy experienced personnel to coordinate its campaign.
“We are working hard and will leave no stone unturned in our efforts in mobilising Nigerians for this election. We have assembled very credible hands to manage our campaign. We will unveil our campaign machinery to the public soon,” he said.
Abubakar expressed confidence in Makinde’s prospects, citing the governor’s record in Oyo State and what he described as his blueprint for addressing Nigeria’s economic and social challenges.
The party also criticised the Tinubu administration, arguing that what it described as poor performance had increased the demand for an alternative political platform ahead of the 2027 election.
According to Abubakar, recent electoral developments, including the Osun State governorship election, demonstrated the ability of voters to influence electoral outcomes when allowed to freely exercise their franchise.
“Most Nigerians have expressed their readiness to vote in Seyi Makinde as the credible alternative to President Tinubu. Of course, last Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State has shown the power of the people in an election. Come January 2027, Nigerians will speak with one voice for Seyi Makinde,” he said.
The APM spokesman urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the 2027 general elections are free, fair and credible.
He called on electoral and security authorities to ensure that election results reflect the choices of voters, while assuring that the APM would operate within the law and take steps to protect votes cast for its candidates.
The party said its nationwide mobilisation and campaign activities would intensify as the 2027 election approaches, with details of its campaign structure expected to be unveiled soon.
