The Media Assistant to the immediate past Minister of Power and leading All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports claiming his principal filed a lawsuit over the party’s governorship primary as false and misleading.
In a statement, Comrade Femi Awogboro described the reports as a calculated attempt to create confusion within the APC and distract members from the ongoing process leading to the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
According to him, Adelabu has neither instituted any legal action against the APC or any governorship aspirant nor submitted a petition to the party’s national leadership over the primary election.
“The report is completely false, baseless and should be disregarded by party members and the general public. Chief Adebayo Adelabu has not sued anybody. In fact, he has not even written a single petition to the party over the primary election,” Awogboro said.
He questioned the basis of the reports, noting that the APC had yet to officially declare the results of the governorship primary or announce a winner.
Awogboro said Adelabu’s only position throughout the exercise has been that the Electoral Act, the APC Constitution and the party’s guidelines must be strictly followed.
He maintained that insisting on due process should not be interpreted as an attack on the party or any of the aspirants.
According to him, no official declaration of the primary election results has been made, while the votes reportedly scored by the aspirants have not been officially released.
He added that any claim of victory before the completion of the party’s constitutional processes remains unofficial and amounts to self-proclamation.
The media aide also described reports alleging that a governorship candidate’s name had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal before the official declaration of results as speculative.
He warned that if such reports were true, they would raise serious concerns about compliance with the Electoral Act, the APC Constitution and the party’s internal democratic processes.
Awogboro, however, expressed confidence that the APC would act in accordance with its constitution and laid-down procedures.
He reaffirmed Adelabu’s loyalty to the APC, insisting that the former minister remains committed to the unity, progress and electoral success of the party in Oyo State.
“Our principal remains a loyal and committed party man. He has not authorised any legal action against the APC or any aspirant. The rumours are the imagination of their authors and should be ignored,” he said.
He urged party members and the public to disregard what he described as fake reports, stressing that any official position from Adelabu would always be communicated through his authorised media platforms.
