Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, expressing confidence that the President will secure a second term in the 2027 general elections.
Soludo made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Alliance Africa at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council in Abuja.
The governor called on progressive political groups across the country to unite behind Tinubu, arguing that national unity, security and shared prosperity should guide Nigeria’s development efforts.
“We in Africa believe in the unity of Nigeria. We believe in the security of Nigeria. We believe in the shared prosperity of Nigeria,” Soludo said.
He explained that these principles informed his group’s decision to support the President, whom he said represented three critical pillars for Nigeria’s present and future.
The Anambra governor urged political forces that share progressive ideals to put aside their differences and work together towards the country’s development.
“I have called before that all progressives in Nigeria must unite. This is an opportunity that we must not miss. We must come together for this new Nigeria that we dream about,” he said.
Expressing confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects, Soludo suggested that the President’s second term should be seen as an opportunity to accelerate the implementation of his administration’s economic reforms.
“In the second term, I want to believe, it’s not if you get second term. We are talking about when you get second term,” he said.
Soludo acknowledged that the economic reform path adopted by the Tinubu administration had been difficult, but maintained that it was necessary.
“The path you are going, the path that you have chosen, that you have had the courage to take, is difficult, but it is necessary,” the governor said.
He described the next phase of the reforms as an opportunity to deepen what he termed “pragmatic progressiveness” in Nigeria.
According to him, progressive political groups must cooperate to support the country’s transformation and consolidate policies aimed at achieving national development.
Reaffirming his position, Soludo told the President: “So I say to you, Mr President, I’m with you.”
The governor’s declaration adds to the political endorsements emerging ahead of the 2027 presidential election, as political parties and their allies intensify efforts to build support for their preferred candidates.
His remarks centred on political unity, the continuation of economic reforms and the need for progressive groups to rally around a shared development agenda.
