A former Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Sam Soni Ejekwu, has emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 election in Rivers State.
Ejekwu, known to be a close ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was declared winner after affirmation votes by delegates from the various local government areas of the state.
The electoral committee chairman, Tajudeen Yusuf, announced Ejekwu as the party’s consensus candidate following what party officials described as a smooth and transparent process.
Confirming the development, the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kenneth Yowika, said Ejekwu contested as the sole aspirant for the ticket.
Yowika explained that delegates across the local government areas unanimously endorsed the former commissioner during the affirmation exercise.
According to him, the process was conducted peacefully without disputes or objections from party stakeholders.
The emergence of Ejekwu is expected to further strengthen the influence of Wike within the Rivers PDP structure as political alignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election continue to gather momentum.
