The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the conferment of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 69 legal practitioners, recognising their outstanding contributions to legal practice and scholarship in the country.
The decision was taken at the committee’s 174th plenary session held on July 23, 2026, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary of the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi.
Akanbi said the SAN rank is reserved for legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves either as advocates before the courts or as academics who have made remarkable contributions to the development of legal scholarship.
He disclosed that all successful candidates must participate in and successfully complete the mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme organised in line with the directive of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), stressing that attendance is a compulsory condition for the conferment of the prestigious title.
The committee also warned the successful applicants against publishing or encouraging the publication of congratulatory messages, advertisements or goodwill notices relating to their nomination or conferment, noting that any violation of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023, could attract sanctions.
According to the LPPC, the successful candidates will be formally sworn in as Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Among those elevated are Ibrahim Gamdeh Adamu, Jude Chukwuemeka Okafor, Goodwill Achibong Umoh, Sunday Samuel Obende, Adebayo Olugbenga Adaralegbe, Jimson Ejovi Okodaso, Olalekan Lawrence Bade-John, Olaotan Thomas Olusegun, Philemon Audu Daffi, Adenrele David Adegborioye, James Eromosele Agbonhese, Alexander Nduka Muoka, Onome Okodiya, Emmanuel Akunke Akomaye and Ikhide Ekhighelua, among others.
