The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chairmanship candidate for Njikoka Local Government Area in the August 29 Anambra council election, Dr. Okechukwu Okakpu, has revealed that he has contested elections in the state for 20 years without recording a single victory.
Speaking at the third anniversary of the APGA Apostles in Awka, Okakpu said despite spending huge resources and investing years in politics, he has repeatedly lost elections but remains determined to pursue his political ambition.
Describing his political journey as challenging, the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart urged politicians and aspirants not to see politics as a do-or-die affair but to remain patient and focused.
“I have contested elections for 20 years in Anambra, spending my time and resources, yet I have not achieved the victory I desired. But that has not discouraged me,” he said.
Okakpu disclosed that he had contested both local government and State House of Assembly elections without success, stressing that persistence remains the key to political success.
He described the APGA Apostles as a formidable grassroots movement committed to promoting the ideals of the ruling party and mobilising support ahead of the forthcoming local government and National Assembly elections.
The APGA candidate also praised Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, saying his administration has transformed Anambra through massive road construction, improvements in healthcare, enhanced security and other development projects.
He urged members of the APGA Apostles to return to their wards and polling units to mobilise support for the party by highlighting the achievements of the Soludo administration.
Okakpu commended the group’s commitment and resilience, expressing confidence that APGA would record sweeping victories in the coming elections.
