Bombshell in Kano: Gwarzo Reveals Why He Quit as Deputy Governor

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has broken his silence on his sudden resignation, saying the decision was taken to preserve peace and ensure smooth governance in the state.

Gwarzo, who stepped down on Friday, said his exit followed “careful consultations and deep reflection,” stressing that the move was in the best interest of Kano and its people.

In a resignation letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the former deputy governor said he acted out of a sense of responsibility and statesmanship.

“I hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, with effect from March 27, 2026,” he wrote, citing Section 306(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

He explained that the prevailing political and administrative circumstances made it difficult for him to continue effectively in office, noting that his exit would allow the government to function without distractions.

“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility to allow the government and the state to move forward without undue distractions,” Gwarzo stated.

The former deputy governor, however, dismissed speculations linking his resignation to alleged misconduct, insisting that his decision should not be misinterpreted.

“This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing,” he clarified.

Gwarzo maintained that his actions were guided by a deep respect for democratic principles and institutional integrity, describing his resignation as a necessary sacrifice in the public interest.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf, members of the State Executive Council, the Kano State House of Assembly, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for their support during his time in office.

“I remain deeply grateful to the good people of Kano State for the honour and privilege to serve,” he said.

Despite stepping down, Gwarzo assured that he remains committed to the development of Kano State and would continue to contribute in other capacities.

His resignation has sparked fresh political conversations within the state, with observers closely watching the unfolding dynamics in Kano’s political landscape.
