The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has suffered a fresh setback following the resignation of a two-term member of the House of Representatives, Anthony Adepoju, citing prolonged internal crisis within the party.
Adepoju, who represents Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central Federal Constituency, formally communicated his decision in a letter addressed to the PDP chairman in his ward, bringing to the fore deepening cracks within the party’s structure in the state.
In the letter, obtained by journalists on Thursday, the lawmaker said the lingering internal disputes had begun to undermine his effectiveness as a representative.
He warned that the situation had not only weakened party cohesion but also affected his ability to deliver on his mandate.
“The internal crises have negatively impacted my performance and created serious divisions within the party,” he stated.
Adepoju expressed concern over the possible reaction of his supporters to the move but assured that his next political step would be unveiled in due course.
“I regret how this resignation may be received by my millions of followers at home and abroad, and I assure everyone that my next political move will be made known in due course,” he added.
His exit comes amid growing signs of discontent within the PDP in Oyo State, raising concerns about internal stability as political realignments gradually begin ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers say the resignation could trigger further defections if unresolved grievances within the party persist, potentially altering the balance of power in the state’s evolving political landscape.
