The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced major concessions on its nomination and expression of interest forms for women, youths and persons living with disabilities (PWDs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Under the new arrangement, female aspirants and youths aged between 18 and 35 will pay only 50 per cent of the approved fees for the forms, while PWD aspirants will pay just 25 per cent.
The party said the initiative is aimed at promoting inclusiveness and encouraging wider participation in the nation’s democratic process.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said economic and social barriers should not prevent qualified Nigerians from seeking elective positions.
According to him, young people and persons living with disabilities often face financial and structural challenges that limit their political participation.
He also noted that women continue to encounter cultural and institutional obstacles in politics, stressing the need for affirmative action to boost their representation in governance.
Enekweizu said excluding women from active political participation would deny the country the contributions of a significant segment of its population and weaken democratic development.
The party explained that presidential, governorship and National Assembly forms would be available at its national secretariat in Abuja, while forms for State House of Assembly positions would be obtained at state offices nationwide.
The NDC added that the policy reflects its commitment to dismantling barriers that have historically restricted access to elective offices for many Nigerians.
