Arteta Makes History as Arsenal Win Premier League Title, Ending 22-Year Drought

London, England — Mikel Arteta has made Premier League history after leading Arsenal to the 2025/26 title, becoming the first former player in the competition to win it as a manager.

The Gunners were officially crowned champions on Tuesday following Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, sealing Arsenal’s first league title in 22 years since their famous 2003/04 “Invincibles” campaign.

Arteta’s achievement marks a historic milestone in English football, as no previous Premier League-winning manager had also featured as a player in the competition.

The Spaniard, who played in the Premier League between 2005 and 2016 for Arsenal and Everton, took charge of the North London club in December 2019 and has since overseen a remarkable transformation.

After guiding Arsenal to three consecutive second-place finishes in recent seasons, Arteta finally delivered the club’s long-awaited title, restoring them to the summit of English football.

“This is a special moment for the club and everyone connected to it,” observers noted, as celebrations erupted among players and fans worldwide following confirmation of the title.

Arteta’s success has been attributed to his tactical discipline, emphasis on high pressing, and a rebuilt squad that blends youth and experience. His leadership has also been credited with reviving Arsenal’s identity and competitiveness at the highest level.

Having previously won two FA Cups as a player with Arsenal, Arteta returned to the club after working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, embarking on a long-term rebuilding project that has now delivered silverware.

Beyond the league triumph, Arsenal are also preparing for the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, raising hopes of a historic double.

The 44-year-old’s accomplishment has drawn widespread praise across the football world, cementing his status as one of the most successful player-turned-managers in modern football.
