NFF Orders Super Falcons Technical Crew to Step Down After WAFCON Exit

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has directed the technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect following the team’s early exit from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The decision was taken by the NFF Executive Committee on Monday and announced via the federation’s official X account.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the NFF stated.

The nine-time African champions were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon — the first time in the history of the competition that the Super Falcons failed to progress beyond that stage.

The early exit cost Nigeria an automatic qualification ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The team was forced into the African playoffs, where it suffered a further setback, losing 2-1 to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

The defeat ended Nigeria’s hopes of appearing at the global tournament and intensified pressure on the technical team.

The Super Falcons have long been one of Africa’s dominant forces in women’s football. The consecutive setbacks at the continental championship and World Cup qualification stage have now prompted the NFF to demand a change in technical leadership as the federation begins the process of rebuilding the side for future competitions.
