PTI Raises Alarm Over Fake Social Media Accounts Impersonating Principal Samuel Onoji

Effurun, Delta State — The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has warned Nigerians against fraudulent social media accounts impersonating its Principal and Chief Executive, Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji, describing the development as a calculated attempt to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

In a statement dated May 24, 2026, the Institute disclosed that cybercriminals have created fake accounts across Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn using the name, photographs, and official designation of the PTI boss.

The management said the impersonators are using the fake profiles to solicit money under false pretences, including promises of admission, job placements, contracts, and other unofficial dealings linked to the institution.

According to the statement, the fraudsters also request sensitive personal and financial information while spreading misleading messages falsely attributed to the office of the Principal.

The Institute categorically denied any connection to the fraudulent accounts, stressing that Engr. Dr. Samuel Onoji does not operate any personal Facebook account for official business and has not authorized any individual or group to represent him on unofficial platforms.

PTI further clarified that its Principal does not request money, gifts, or confidential information from the public via social media.

Public Advisory on Cyber Impersonation

The Institute urged Nigerians, including students, contractors, media organisations, and stakeholders, to rely strictly on PTI’s verified communication channels for accurate information.

It advised the public to disregard and report suspicious messages, friend requests, or online posts claiming to represent the Principal or the institution.

PTI also warned against sending money or releasing personal and banking details to individuals posing as representatives of its leadership online.

The management appealed to the media and stakeholders to help amplify the warning, noting that cyber impersonation and identity theft are growing threats in the digital space.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and institutional integrity, the Institute assured the public of ongoing efforts to protect its reputation and safeguard stakeholders from cyber-enabled fraud.

The statement was signed by the PTI Management.
