Lokpobiri, Ekpo Back NMDPRA’s Regulatory Drive as New CEO Seeks Strategic Support

Abuja, Nigeria — The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, have pledged full support to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) as its new Authority Chief Executive, Mr. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, moves to strengthen regulatory oversight in the sector.

The ministers gave the assurance on Monday when Umar paid them separate courtesy visits as part of ongoing stakeholder engagements aimed at advancing the Authority’s regulatory mandate in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

During the meetings, Umar sought continued guidance and institutional backing to deliver on the NMDPRA’s strategic objectives, particularly in enhancing efficiency across the midstream and downstream segments.

The ministers congratulated the NMDPRA boss on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to steer the Authority effectively, assuring him of their commitment to supporting reforms and regulatory improvements in the sector.

Umar, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and trust placed in him, noting that he was impressed by the professionalism, expertise, and dedication of the workforce within the Authority.

He pledged to harness the existing human capital to strengthen regulatory performance, drive innovation, and support the growth of Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sector.

The engagement is part of broader efforts by the NMDPRA leadership to align with key government stakeholders and reinforce regulatory frameworks critical to the stability and development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
