Coalition Retracts Claims, Apologises to Pipeline Infrastructure Limited Over Public Statements

The Coalition for Better Nigeria has issued a formal apology to Pipeline Infrastructure Limited (PIL), withdrawing statements made during a press conference on May 5, 2026, which it acknowledged were not sufficiently verified.

In a letter signed by its spokesperson, Mohammed Garba Yahaya, the group admitted lapses in its verification process and expressed regret over any reputational or operational impact the comments may have caused.

“I write to sincerely apologise for the press conference statement issued by the Coalition For Better Nigeria on 5th May, 2026, referencing Pipeline Infrastructure Limited,” Yahaya said.

“Upon further review, I recognise that the statement did not meet the standard of accuracy and due diligence required for public communication.”

The coalition also acknowledged that the remarks may have affected the company’s stakeholders and partners, adding that it regretted any disruption caused.

“I regret any reputational damage, operational disruption, or undue concern this may have caused your team, stakeholders, and partners of Pipeline Infrastructure Limited,” the letter stated.

Pipeline Infrastructure Limited is involved in the monitoring and protection of oil and gas infrastructure, including efforts to reduce pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft across the country.

Yahaya said public statements concerning critical infrastructure operators must be based on verified information, noting that inaccuracies could undermine important national efforts.

“This company has been a key player in securing critical national assets, and the integrity of that work deserves to be addressed with facts, not assumptions,” he said.

He added that the coalition would issue a formal clarification and strengthen its internal review processes to prevent similar incidents.

“We are taking immediate steps to correct the record. A retraction will be issued, and we will ensure all future statements are grounded in verified data before release,” he said.

The group also indicated openness to further engagement with the company to rebuild trust and improve communication.

“I am also open to a direct engagement with your team to discuss this further and restore confidence,” Yahaya added.

The letter concluded with an unreserved apology to Pipeline Infrastructure Limited and its stakeholders.
