KANO – Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, representing Kano Central Senatorial District, has opened up on his sour relationship with the Kwankwasiyya political movement, declaring that his years of unwavering loyalty ended in disappointment and heartbreak.
Speaking during the Danuwa’ Rano podcast, Hanga said his dedication to the movement only earned him ridicule from political opponents and emotional pain.
“I followed the Kwankwasiyya movement with absolute loyalty, but in the end, I was left facing the mockery of my enemies and the tears of those who cared about me,” the senator said.
Although he did not mention anyone by name, the remark is widely believed to be directed at the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Hanga’s outburst comes amid recent political developments in Kano, where he reportedly lost the National Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial ticket to newcomer Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A longtime ally of Kwankwaso, Hanga was elected to the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) under the Kwankwasiyya movement.
However, the political landscape changed after Kwankwaso exited the NNPP and emerged as the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), triggering fresh political alignments across Kano State.
In recent weeks, reports of disagreements between Hanga and the leadership of the Kwankwasiyya movement have continued to fuel speculation over the senator’s political future.
Though Hanga did not disclose the specific issues behind his disappointment, his comments have sparked fresh debates within Kano’s political circles, with many describing them as his strongest public criticism yet of the movement he once served with total loyalty.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Kwankwaso nor the leadership of the Kwankwasiyya movement had reacted to the senator’s remarks.
