States Now Better Funded Under Tinubu, Sokoto Governor Aliyu Says

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has said state governments are now receiving more funds under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, enabling them to implement development projects and programmes.

Aliyu made the statement in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State during the flag-off of the sale of food items at subsidised prices to rural residents and junior civil servants.

The governor’s remarks were contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Sokoto by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto.

Aliyu said increased funding from the Federal Government had enabled his administration to execute projects and provide interventions aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

“All the developmental projects we are executing in the state are as a result of the adequate funding we are receiving from the Federal Government,” the governor said.

He added that the state’s welfare interventions, including the subsidised sale of food items and payment of workers’ salaries on the 18th of every month, were also being supported by increased federal funding.

“Similarly, all the palliatives we have been providing to our people, including this sale of food items at subsidized rates, as well as the payment of salaries on the 18th of every month, are also as a result of the adequate funding we receive from the Federal Government,” Aliyu said.

The governor urged residents to disregard what he described as campaigns of calumny against President Tinubu and called on them to support the President’s bid for a second term in 2027.

Aliyu commended the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, describing them as “one of the best things to have happened to Nigeria.”

He also assured the President of his administration’s support for his re-election campaign in 2027.

The governor’s comments came as his administration launched the subsidised food programme in Bodinga, which he said was designed to make essential food items more affordable for rural dwellers and junior civil servants.

On insecurity, Aliyu said the state government had continued to support security agencies in their efforts to combat armed banditry across Sokoto State.

He cited the recent provision of 62 armoured vehicles to security agencies, in addition to more than 200 patrol vehicles and 2,000 motorcycles previously provided to strengthen security operations.

The governor said tackling insecurity required cooperation between residents and security agencies, particularly through the provision of timely intelligence.

“We need to understand that addressing insecurity requires our collective support, and therefore, we must assist the security agencies with relevant information,” he said.

Aliyu also urged residents to expose alleged informants who provide bandits with information about developments and activities in rural communities.

“We must equally expose informants living among us because they provide the bandits with information on happenings in our rural communities,” he added.

The governor appealed to residents to continue praying for an end to insecurity in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.
