Katsina: Radda Pledges More Funding for Vulnerable Communities

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has pledged sustained government funding and institutional support for humanitarian interventions targeting vulnerable communities, as his administration strengthens collaboration with the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).

Radda gave the assurance when he received an ECHO delegation, led by its Team Lead, Mr. Alexandre, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Katsina.

The governor commended ECHO and its implementing partners for their interventions across several local government areas, particularly in nutrition, food security and humanitarian assistance.

He noted that the development partners had complemented government efforts by supporting vulnerable populations and addressing critical humanitarian needs across the state.

Radda assured the delegation that his administration would continue to provide the necessary funding and institutional backing to sustain successful interventions.

He stressed that government resources and donor contributions must complement each other to achieve inclusive and sustainable development, particularly for communities facing humanitarian challenges.

ECHO lauds Katsina’s commitment

Earlier, Alexandre commended the governor for prioritising the welfare of vulnerable people and creating an enabling environment for development partners to operate effectively.

He also praised the state government for demonstrating ownership of humanitarian programmes through counterpart and matching funding, which he said, in some instances, exceeded donor commitments.

According to him, the state’s financial commitment would help ensure that humanitarian interventions remained sustainable beyond the lifespan of donor-funded projects.

Alexandre reaffirmed ECHO’s commitment to supporting Katsina in key areas, including nutrition, food security, humanitarian assistance, resilience building and institutional capacity development.

He emphasised that sustained cooperation between the state government and development partners remained essential to meeting the needs of vulnerable communities.

The visit was facilitated by the Katsina State Development Management Board (KTDMB) as part of ECHO’s mission to monitor and assess ongoing humanitarian interventions being implemented by its partners across the state.

The engagement is expected to strengthen coordination between the state government and development partners in delivering humanitarian assistance and improving the welfare of vulnerable residents.
