The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to disqualify the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, from the 2027 election, awarding ₦10 million in costs against the plaintiff.
Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided over Court 9 of the court, dismissed the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1112/2026, ruling that the plaintiff lacked the requisite legal standing to challenge Salihu’s nomination.
The court also examined the substance of the allegations and held that the claims against the APC candidate were not sufficiently established by the evidence presented before it.
The plaintiff had challenged Salihu’s emergence as the APC governorship candidate, alleging that his participation in separate nomination exercises amounted to double nomination and rendered his candidacy invalid.
However, Justice Nwite rejected the argument, holding that the circumstances presented before the court did not establish grounds for nullifying the candidate’s nomination.
The judge consequently dismissed the suit and refused the reliefs sought by the plaintiff.
In a further blow to the plaintiff, the court awarded ₦10 million in costs against him.
The ruling leaves the challenge to Salihu’s APC nomination unsuccessful in the suit, as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
