*Says late actor was a cherished member of its family
The Africa Women Conference (AWC) has mourned the death of popular Nollywood actor, Francis Duru, describing him as a cherished member of its family whose contributions would remain unforgettable.
The conference said Duru’s death was particularly painful as it prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in Accra, Ghana, adding that the late actor played a significant role in its journey over the years.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Convener of AWC, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, said the organisation received the news of the actor’s death with profound sadness.
According to the statement, Duru’s longstanding participation and contributions to the conference had earned him a special place in the organisation’s history.
“Francis was a cherished member of the AWC family. His longstanding participation and contributions became part of our shared journey, and we will remember with gratitude the time, talent and dedication he brought to the conference,” the statement said.
The conference noted that the actor’s passing had cast a shadow over preparations for its 10th anniversary, which would provide an opportunity to celebrate individuals who had contributed to its growth and development.
It said Duru would be deeply missed by members of the conference, adding that his presence and contributions had become part of its collective history.
The organisation also paid tribute to his achievements in the creative industry, saying his legacy would live on through his work and the lives he touched.
The conference extended its condolences to the actor’s wife, children, extended family, friends and colleagues, praying that God would grant them strength and comfort during the difficult period.
“On behalf of the leadership, partners and entire AWC family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, extended family, friends and colleagues,” Ahmadu said.
The statement added: “We pray that God comforts them, strengthens them and grants them peace through this difficult time. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
