Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday met with former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, following the party’s presidential primary election.
Atiku had emerged winner of the ADC primary after defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to clinch the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the primary.
However, Atiku, during his acceptance speech, appealed to Amaechi and other aggrieved party members to unite and work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
Although details of the meeting were not disclosed, sources within the party said the talks were part of efforts to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and secure Amaechi’s support for the party ahead of the polls.
Neither Atiku nor Amaechi addressed journalists after the meeting.
